Lying on the west coast of India at the confluence of the Arabian Sea and the Karli River, the narrow stretch of Tarkarli beach is known for its crystal clear, pristine water. On a clear, sunny day, you can get a clear view of the sea-bed together with its silver sand up to a depth of 20 feet.

Major Attraction

Apart from enjoying the crystal clear waters and the rare view of the sea-bed up to 20 feet, you may even explore the Karli backwaters, enjoy boating and catch a view of the dolphins. Scuba-diving and snorkeling are other water-based activities that you can indulge in. Mahapurush Temple in Tarkarli is famous for its Ramnavami Utsav, which you can be privy to if you come here in March.

Nearby Attractions

Since Tarkarli is 8 kms south of Malvan, you can visit Malvan to see Sindhudurg Fort, Rock Garden and the city’s market. Devbagh beach that’s adjacent to Tarkarli beach and ends at the Sangam (where Karli River meets the Arabian Sea) is another place worth a visit.

Once you have had your fill of the beach and water sports, you may even explore the town of Tarkarli and visit Shree Shivchhatrapati Temple, where the idol is believed to be a close replica of how the great Maratha warrior Shivaji looked in real life.

It’s widely believed that this temple has Shivaji’s palm prints on dried lime slabs and footprints carved into a dome. You may even plan a trip to the nearby Achra beach and Kolamb beach.
