The Norwegian Breakaway recently arrived at the Damen shipyard in Brest, France, for a significant refurbishment project.
After offering a trans-Atlantic crossing from Miami, the Norwegian Cruise Line vessel arrived in Europe on Feb. 19, 2025.
The 2013-built ship then arrived at the shipyard one day later, kicking off a three-week-long drydock stay.
As part of the project, the Norwegian Breakaway is scheduled to undergo regular maintenance and class work, in addition to enhancements to its public areas and cabins.
One of the biggest changes coming to the ship includes the replacement of the Spiegel Tent specialty restaurant, which will make room for the new Silver Screen Bistro.
According to Norwegian Cruise Line, the new concept will offer oversized recliners and retractable tables, serving shareable handheld menu items, including dishes from Food Republic.
The vessel is also getting Horizon Park, an outdoor area with 360° ocean views that debuted on the Norwegian Bliss earlier this year.
Designed as a gathering point for guests, the venue will feature a stage for live music and entertainment, Norwegian said.
Additionally, the Breakaway will debut The Stadium, a family-friendly outdoor activities area, while Vibe Beach Club and The Haven Sundeck will be expanded with more seating and cabanas.
The 144,000-ton vessel will see changes to its food and beverage offerings as well, including an expanded Cagney’s Steakhouse replacing Moderno Churrascaria and Ocean Blue being transformed into Palomar.
Upon resuming service in mid-March, the Norwegian Breakaway is set to offer a series of cruises in the Mediterranean.
The schedule includes nine- to 11-night cruises visiting destinations in Spain, Greece, Italy, France, Croatia and more.
In late November, the vessel returns to North America for a winter season sailing from New York City to the Caribbean, Florida and the Bahamas.
