Texas-born actress Eva Longoria has joined the growing list of celebrities who have turned their backs on the U.S. and relocated abroad in the wake of Donald Trump‘s election win, revealing in a new interview that she is “done” with life in “dystopian” America and is now based full-time between Spain and Mexico.
Longoria, 49, was born in Corpus Christi, TX, but spent “her whole adult life” living in Los Angeles, having relocated there in her 20s to pursue her on-screen career.
But now, in an interview with Marie Claire, she has admitted that she’s “escaped” the country where she has lived for nearly five decades and will now reside full-time with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago, 6, in their properties in Central America and Europe.
Although the “Desperate Housewives” star says she made the decision before Trump claimed victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, she says she believes the country will become a “scary place” if the president-elect “keeps his promises.”
Longoria concedes that she is very “privileged” in her ability to move away from the country where she was born and raised, and where she launched her successful acting career.

“I’m privileged. I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky,” she said. “They are going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and my sadness is for them.”
Speaking about Trump’s win, she notes that it is “not shocking that he won.
“It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office,” she explained.
The actress noted that the conditions in her former home state of California were largely to blame for her decision to leave the U.S. before the election, insisting that while she doesn’t want to “s–t” on the region, she found certain aspects of it very difficult to bear.
“I had my whole adult life here. But even before [the COVID-19 pandemic], it was changing, the vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge,” she went on. “Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s–t on California—it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Longoria’s official exodus from the U.S. appears to have begun in earnest in 2023, when she put her sprawling Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $22.88 million—later slashing the price to $18.98 million in May 2024.
She and her husband paid $13.5 million for the chic, 1.4-acre property in 2017. The couple will still make a hefty profit on the sale, if they manage to find a buyer willing to pay their latest ask. They reportedly spent an untold (but obviously substantial) amount on an exquisite renovation.
The 10,652-square-foot Spanish contemporary mansion was originally built in 1996 and is positioned on a deep lot with a long, gated driveway. The home’s state-of-the-art security system also makes it ideal for anyone who requires the utmost privacy.
Longoria and Bastón added many colorful touches when they remodeled. For starters, they livened up the somewhat stark exterior by planting trees and creeping vines around the main house and refreshed the front door with a vibrant red hue.
Some of the home’s more luxurious features include a home theater, luxe pool cabana with a full bar, temperature-controlled wine room, stylish library, extensive glass-walled gym, and championship tennis court with a pavilion.

The backyard pool and spa area is full of lounging, dining, entertaining, and relaxing areas, all made more spectacular by the canyon views.
The home remains on the market—but that hasn’t stopped the star from leaving it, and Los Angeles, behind.
She explained to Marie Claire that, even when it comes to her on-screen work or her budding career as a producer, she does not look to L.A. as a filming location, preferring to shoot elsewhere.
Two of her most recent on-screen projects—the CNN series “Searching for Mexico” and its follow-up, “Searching for Spain”—saw her spending months in both of those countries, and while she returned to the U.S. to campaign for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, she no longer considers it her home.
Longoria has owned property in Mexico for several years now, revealing in her 2023 series “Searching for Mexico” that she first became infatuated with the country when she and her husband—who hails from Mexico—began dating.
“I’ve had a home here ever since I fell in love with a chilango [local person],” she said, referring to her husband and adding that the two of them “spend as much time here as we can.”
She purchased her villa in the Spanish town of Marbella more recently, revealing in a January 2024 interview with Hello! that she had been hunting for a home there for five years before she finally stumbled across her dream property.
“The first time I came to Marbella, two decades ago, it was love at first sight. I said to myself: ‘Some day I’ll live here,’” she revealed. “Finally, in early 2023, this house came on the market.
“It needed refurbishing, but it had just the size and location I was after. So, taking advantage of the fact that I was in Barcelona filming, I came down and bought it that same day.”
