Dwaraka is an ancient land believed to be the capital city of Lord Krishna. It is an important religious centre for Hindus and is surrounded by numerous mythological tales surrounding the Lord.
This holy site is said to have been reclaimed from the sea. Beyt Dwaraka
Beyt is a small island near Dwaraka and has a sandy white beach. Excavations in and around this island have yielded pots, seals, jars, ship wreaks, coins and many artefacts from the Harappan period.
The presence of coral reefs here attracts many visitors. At this unique spot, you can also go for picnics and marine camping to study the tides and biodiversity such as corals, sea anemones, barnacles, marine turtles, sea snakes and more dolphin sightings.
Dunny Point
Dunny Point is located on Beyt Island and is the first eco-tourism spot in the state of Gujarat. It is cut off from electricity and technology. It is a great place for swimming, dolphin spotting, water polo, volleyball and viewing the corals underwater.
Many birds come here and bird enthusiasts are the most populous visitors around the time the migratory birds arrive.
Nexon Beach
This is also called Okha Madhi Beach. Its blue waters, golden sands and roaring waves make it endearing. It is also a centre for turtle conservation.
Shivrajpur beach
This lovely beach falls alongside the Dwaraka-Okha Highway. Its popularity stems from its Blue Flag beach certification which means the beach meets all the high standards of environmental management. The standards cover water Public environmental education, quality and safety.

Gomti Ghat
Gomti, a tributary of the Ganga River, meets the sea in Dwaraka. A sacred dip is taken here by pilgrims to pay obeisance to their forefathers. There is a Gomati Mataji temple and a Shiva temple with shrines of Lord Krishna, his friend Sudama and Lord Rama. Small stalls selling tea, trinkets and seashell jewellery make the place lively.
Lighthouse
The Lighthouse in Dwaraka is 43 metres tall and located near the Bhadkeshwar temple. Visit it to understand its working and also to get a bird’s eye view of the surroundings.
Sudama Setu
This suspension bridge, for pedestrian use built over the Gomti River, connects the main Dwarakadheesh temple to Panchkui Tirth. The sweeping view of the surroundings is out of this world!
Dwarakadish temple
The Dwarakadish is one of the important pilgrim centres and the main attraction in Dwaraka. It is also called Jagat Mandir. Built in Chalukya-style architecture with limestone and sand this temple is more than 2200 years old and is said to built by Krishna’s grandson Vajranabh.
The deities placed inside this temple are a black idol of Lord Krishna, Rukmini, Subhadra, Revathy, Balarama and Vasudeva.
Swaminarayan temple
Swaminarayan is an avatar of Vishnu. This temple is a relatively new structure built using both old and modern architectural techniques with intricate sculptures and wallwork. The immaculately maintained garden is inviting. A Dharmashala attached to this temple provides affordable accommodation to the tourists who visit this city.
Rukmini Devi temple
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Rukmini, the consort of Krishna, It is small but an architectural marvel. It is built about 2.5 km away from Dwarakadeesh temple because according to mythology the Goddess was cursed by Durvasa to live separately from her husband.
Jal daan or water offering is a special offering made to the main deity here.

Gita temple is completely made of marble by the Birlas Industrial family to highlight the teachings of Bhagavat Gita.
ISKCON temple
This popular temple is built of stone and has the idols of Lord Krishna and Goddess Rukmini.
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga
This temple is one of the 12 Jyothirlings that is even mentioned in the Shiv Purna. A giant 80-foot-tall Shiva statue in sitting posture is a feature of this temple.
Bhadkeshwar Mahadev temple
Bhadkeshwar Mahadev temple is located atop a hillock. The temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya some 5000 years ago.
It is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on all sides except a small passage which is the entrance to the temple. The evening arati is among high tides the temple gets cut off for some time.
Mayasar Lake

The best time to visit
Dwaraka is located in Gujarat and during summer the temperatures touch 49 degrees centigrade. The winter months between November to February are relatively cooler and the best time to visit this city.

By air
Jamnagar is the nearest airport and is 137 km away by road. A cab facility is the most preferred option from the airport to Dwaraka.

The Dwaraka station is a part of Western Railway and is connected to all major cities in India.
By Road
There are several state and private buses connecting Dwaraka to various cities of Gujarat such as Porbandar, Ahmedabad and Amerli.
