In the midst of tensions between India and Maldives, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has advocated for the exploration of Sindhudurg and Konkan, emphasizing the allure of beach tourism in the region.

Devendra Fadnavis took to social media to encourage citizens to explore the picturesque Konkan, a statement coming in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, where he shared stunning visuals of the islands.

Highlighting the beauty of India’s coastal attractions, Fadnavis shared on X, “When you #ExploreIndianIslands, don’t miss out on Konkan’s marvels—from the architectural brilliance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Sindhudurg Fort to the captivating Indian Institute of Scuba Diving and Aquatic Sports (IISDA) at Tarkarli Beach, offering a breathtaking experience of the majestic Arabian Sea.”
“This is not Maldives! This is our beautiful Konkan, which #Maharashtra is blessed with! Photos are from Sindhudurg…,” Fadnavis emphasized.
Earlier this month, PM Modi shared glimpses of his visit to Lakshadweep, expressing admiration for the islands’ beauty and the warmth of its people. He detailed his experiences in adventurous activities like snorkeling, inviting enthusiasts to consider adding Lakshadweep to their travel lists.
However, certain political figures in Maldives ridiculed PM Modi’s comparison, calling it unrealistic and criticizing the explicit targeting of their nation. The mockery extended to derogatory remarks by Maldivian Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Mariyam Shiuna, which have since been deleted.
In response to the diplomatic discord between India and the Maldives, the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) vehemently condemned the disrespectful comments directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India by some deputy ministers on social media platforms.
The friction in diplomatic relations between the two countries arose following PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, leading to condemnations from the Maldivian tourism body over the uncalled-for remarks made by their officials.
