Luxury cruises are seeing a new wave of popularity among young travellers, as demand from Gen Z ‘skyrockets’.
Once considered a getaway for older holidaymakers, cruises are now being embraced by the younger generation, with bookings from 22 to 30-year-olds surging by 367 per cent year-on-year.
This new data comes from Destination2, a luxury holiday and cruise provider.
According to the company, Gen Z is now the ‘fastest-growing’ demographic in cruise travel, with January 2025 expected to see ‘record demand’.
The overall number of cruise bookings has seen a 90 per cent increase compared to the previous year, indicating a new era for the cruise industry.
While the 51-60 age group, traditionally a ‘strong market’ for cruises, has also shown growth, it has been at a more modest rate of 84 per cent.
Destination2’s cruise expert, Mike Graham said: “Gen Z holidaymakers are catching on – luxury cruises aren’t just for retirees; they’re the ultimate smart-spending hack.
“With everything from dining to entertainment bundled into one price, they beat traditional trips loaded with hidden costs.
“Plus, they’re a dream for content creators, offering ever-changing, Insta-worthy backdrops without the hassle of constant packing and unpacking.
“Then when it’s time to recharge, cruises prioritise mental well-being with ocean-view yoga, luxury spas and stress-free travel – giving holidaymakers the perfect balance of adventure, self-care and mindfulness.”
