Iceland and Spain host Ponant’s luxury 2026 solar eclipse cruises, offering prime viewing spots, expert insights, and an unforgettable celestial experience.
Ponant is introducing three exclusive voyages for travelers to witness the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, offering unparalleled viewing experiences at sea.
Departing from Iceland and Spain, these specially curated sailings ensure prime observation conditions, with onboard experts providing in-depth insights into the celestial event.
As the ships navigate the open waters, captains will strategically position them for unobstructed views, away from land-based interference and potential cloud cover.
Equipped with eclipse glasses, guests will have the unique opportunity to listen to expert astronomers and scientists explain the phenomenon. When totality occurs, the Moon will completely block the Sun, leaving only the mesmerizing solar corona visible in the sky.
The itineraries, set along the coasts of Iceland and the Balearic Islands, have been meticulously planned to maximize visibility and provide an unforgettable experience.
The three exclusive Ponant voyages for the 2026 total solar eclipse:
- The Total Solar Eclipse in the Mediterranean: From August 6 to 14, 2026, aboard Le Boréal, this nine-day journey departs from Nice, France. Guests will be guided by experts Serge Brunier, a renowned science journalist, and Joe Rao, a meteorologist and astronomer.
- The Total Solar Eclipse in The Far North: Running from August 1 to 14, 2026, aboard Le Lyrial, this 14-day expedition sails from Longyearbyen, Svalbard, to Reykjavík, Iceland. French astronauts Claudie and Jean-Pierre Haigneré will accompany passengers, sharing their space exploration experiences.
- The Total Solar Eclipse from Iceland to Ireland: From August 10 to 18, 2026, aboard Le Lapérouse, this nine-day voyage departs from Reykjavík, Iceland, and concludes in Dublin, Ireland. Travelers will be joined by astronaut Jean-François Clervoy, who will offer insights into space travel and celestial phenomena.
Each of these exclusive voyages offers a rare chance to witness one of nature’s most spectacular events in luxury and comfort, surrounded by experts and breathtaking oceanic landscapes.
