Hedvi beach belongs to a small village called Guhagar in the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. Though a majority of people coming here are the pilgrims who converge in the historical temples in and around, many others come to enjoy the spectacular and tranquilizing views of the beach as well.

Major Attraction

Hedvi beach is well-known for its major attraction – Bahman Ghat, which is a huge, black monolith that reaches up to 35 feet in height and is said to be a very unique natural structure. Its significance is the naturally formed gorge that goes as deep as 20 feet and as wide as about 2 feet. Shri Dashbhuj Temple where there is a huge idol of Lord Ganesh with 10 arms made of white marble is another place quite popular with tourists.

Nearby Attractions

Ganpatipule is about one hour from Hedvi beach and is known for its popular Ganapati temple and the exotic beach. Other places that might interest you around Guhagar include a ferry ride to Jaigad fort, which is 15 kms away, and Anjanvel Lighthouse, which is around 14 kms from here. Karhateshwar Temple and Shree Velneshwar Temple are a few other lovely temples worth a visit.

Best Time to Visit

Monsoon should ideally be avoided due to slippery roads and high tides while summer gets too hot for comfort. This narrows down the best choice to the period immediately after monsoon, which is October or November and just before the summer heat strikes, which is March. You can enjoy the ideal weather during this period.

How to get there

Mumbai International airport is about 300 kms away, from where you can hire cabs to reach the beach. However, the best way to get near Hedvi is to choose a bus service that shuttles between Pune, Mumbai, and other key cities. Buses are a better option, as there are several State Transport shuttles heading towards Hedvi. There are a few trains on the Konkan railway route that reach up to Chiplun, which is a major station – 95 kms away from Hedvi beach. You can make use of plenty of cab and jeep services from here to commute to the holy town.

Some of the resorts that can fit your budget include Kinara Beach House, Sunrise Beach Villas, Nilambari Beach Resort and Raigad Kuttir.

Hedvi beach could be the best combination of tourism and pilgrimage and is perhaps the best place to spend some quality time with your loved ones or just your own self amidst a peaceful environment.
