Shingroba Temple
This ancient temple is sacred to the Hindus. It is located in Old Khandala Ghat, Khopoli. The prime deity here is Lord Shiva.
Rajmanchi Fort
It is located in Rajmachi or Udhewadi village on Sahayadri Hills. It was constructed by the Satavahanas and later captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1657.
It is accessible by trekking via two routes. One is an easy walk from Lonavala, the twin hill station of Khandala. Another is a 2000-foot climb from Kondivade village. The best season to visit here is the monsoons.
There is a lot of greenery and the waterfalls gush augment the verdant landscape. Camps can be set near the Kalbhairava temple for overnight stays.
Food is also available in the nearby village. Explore also the caves and monuments and Lake Udayasagar in the vicinity.
Visapur Fort
It is located at an altitude of 1084 meters and provides great views of the surroundings. It came to prominence in the 18th century.
It is an architectural marvel with caves, wells, arches and houses. Trekking to this place is a great adventure as the climb is rocky. Paragliding can also be done here. A well in the premises is said to be built by the Pandavas. There is a temple of Lord Shiva.
Lohagad fort
Made of Iron, this fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at an elevation of 1000 meters. It offers glorious views of the Sahayadri Mountains.
Tunga Fort
It is located at an elevation of 1075 m and can be reached after a steep climb.It is also known as Kathingad fort. Chatrapati Shivaji Mahraj captured it from Adil Shahi dynasty. It looks like a conical peak with thick walls and numerous bastions.
Bedsa caves
These caves date back to 60 BC. They are a group of rock-cut monuments built by followers of the Buddhist religion. The two main caves here are the Chaitya or the Prayer hall (Cave 7) and the other is the Vihara or the monastery(cave 11).
Karla and Bhaja Caves
The 22 rock-cut caves are a great spot to visit, especially when you are an archaeologist. Buddhist style of architecture has been incorporated in these caves. There are lots of carvings on the walls and pillars. In the time gone by these caves were used as prayer halls by Buddhist monks.
Tiger Leap
This one is for adventure lovers! About 8 km away from Lonavala, it can be reached by trekking. This cliff top has a sheer drop of more than 650 meters and offers panoramic views of the neighbouring hills. Visit here during the monsoon season and arrive in the late afternoon to have grand views of the sunset.
Duke Nose
This tourist attraction resembles the Duke Wellingtons’ nose and hence the name. This spot is much sought after by the trekkers and climbers. The greenery and serenity invite you to enjoy morning or evening strolls here.
Kune Waterfalls
It is a pretty 3-tiered waterfall falling from a height of 200 m. It is a popular picnic spot. Kune Church located nearby is worth a visit.
Reversing station
Previously it was an office of Indian Railways. Now it is a nature lovers’ paradise! It is also a mesmerising location for clicking selfies.
Shooting Point
Amongst the many viewpoints in Khandala, this one is located in Bazaar peth of the town. Opt for hiking to reach this spot which has been used by many film productions for their movie locations.
